Another Boring Food Blog Post- New Mexico

We just arrived in New Mexico and checked into our new rental house downtown. After unloading our bags, we made a run to the grocery store to stock up for the week. It's helpful for me to track what we're eating and what the groceries cost so I can make sure we're staying our our budget for this long trip across the United States.

Our New Mexico food haul for 6 nights came to $135.13. This includes snacks, breakfast for 5 days, lunch for 5 days, and dinner for 4 nights. This is a total of 56 meals. Total cost per meal was $2.41. This is significantly higher than what we spent in Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Reno.

Part of why our food costs came in higher this time was our choice to purchase premade items like frozen pizzas and incorporating meat products into our meal plan. We always feel better physically when we do not use these two items but found ourselves fatigued after a long day of travel and a late check-in from our new host and made decisions we normally wouldn't. Despite this higher food bill, this is still much less than if we ate out at an average cost of $15 per plate. We are estimating a total savings of $3,224.87 while in Albuquerque.

Our meals for the week include:

Breakfast

Cereal

Breakfast burritos

Cereal with bananas

Breakfast burritos with avocado

Cereal with bananas

Lunch

Mac & cheese with hotdogs

BLT's and chips

Frozen burritos

Tri tip sandwiches and chips

Dinner

Frozen pizzas

Tri tip and veggies

Burgers and chips

Spaghetti and toast

Snacks

Clif protein bars

Fruit

Various frozen veggies

It's good to remember that even when you spend more on your food budget than expected, it's still better for your health and your budget than eating out!

None of us have been to New Mexico so we are so excited to be here!
